i don your sunglasses amid the glare…shards of light breaking through the leafless wintering trees
yours were the last eyes to see from this side of the smoky glass, and i wonder…what did you see?
did you see love? people touching and talking, smiling, laughing…joy flowing between them
did you see the beauty of nature? the familiar fields and trees, the rise and fall of the road as we crest the hill toward home…the ponds where you fished with muddy feet
did you see the sights as we drove into the city? so many people rushing impatiently about their day… while you lingered leisurely, the calendar a creation of little circumstance to your days
i strain to see from your eyes, and cannot quite…but I find comfort here, behind the smoky glass
